Review number 7 this evening. We're keeping the palates alive with soda water and soda crackers.
Glen Garioch Founder's Reserve, $70 CAD, 48% ABV, Highland, ex-bourbon and ex-sherry.
We sniff around:
Very similar nose to the Macallan Gold we did earlier today. It has those fermented musty apples.
Simon says it's not easy to sniff, lots of fumes. Little butterscotchy. Little candy note comes out after a couple minutes.
It's pronounced Glen Gee-ree apparently.
We cheers.
That's not a Macallan...
Kyle gets a grainy nutty taste to it.
Simon gets that grape candy flavor we've seen in the Amrut Fusion. Amaretto kind of thing. It's pretty hot.
Something about this reminds Scott of the Cadenhead Glenrothes we had recently.
Scott gets this nice balance of sweet spicy soury notes. Like a sour candy.
Reviews: Kyle starts us off. The palate he's really impressed with. These are his types of flavors, the nutty, grape thing it's got going on... he's really impressed with this. He would definitely have this on his shelf. 85. Trevor goes 83, it's got a few things going on, it goes down nice. Simon lands on 80. He finds it just slightly unbalanced being a little too hot, but it's got great flavors and it's fun. May buy a bottle. Scott also really likes it. He'd love to have this on his shelf. The nose wasn't super exciting but it's got a great feel and range of flavors. Rounds us out with 82. Averages out to 82.5.
Overall: We're impressed with this. For the price it's something all of us wil have on our shelves at some point. It lands at spot number 8 on our value scale with 87.2 points. We recommend you give this a shot.
Cheers!
The S&P Crew.
