Getting to the tail end of our evening now with our 8th review.
Larceny Small Batch, 46% ABV, $45 CAD, Wheated Kentucky Straight Bourbon.
We sniff around:
This reminds Simon a lot of the Old Forester 1920 reviewed a few months back but dialed down. The same oak and cherry scents but more friendly and gentle.
Kyle gets bananas. Scott seconds that. Cherry and oak too.
Trevor gets a little sweet cigar note, cherry colt or captain blacks type of thing.
We cheers.
Really nice. Similar to the nose, oak, fizzy spice, vanilla, cherry.
We're all pleasantly surprised.
It's pretty potent still, full flavored.
Scott pulls some char, charred wood. He gets a little mildew, we don't follow suit.
Reviews: Kyle starts us off. He really likes this bottle, it's got everything he likes in bourbons. It's a solid sipping drink, weekday drink. Would go well with a steak. He's going to get another bottle as soon as this runs out. It's an 85 for him. Scott has a harder time differentiating between bourbons than scotches, but that said so far he loves them all. He will look for a bottle. 82 for him. Simon rates this 78. It's got a good feel to it, nice balance, good range of core bourbon flavors. Good BBQ, cigar, business, video game drink. It's solid and you don't need to worry about it. Trevor wraps us out with 84. Averages out to 82.3.
Overall: At the time of this writing Scott has picked up two bottles of Larceny Small Batch, Kyle has restocked his, and Trevor has got himself a bottle as well, so I believe that tells you where we stand on recommendations. This is far from our highest rated bottle but it steals the golden crown from Lagavulin 8 as our number 1 value pick, with 92.1 points. For $45 CAD you get a very well rounded and balanced bourbon with a great feel to it. Punchy enough to feel nice without being a cask strength palate blaster. Great proof at 92. Anyway, get your bottle and try it out.
Cheer!
The S&P Crew.
