There's layers of glitter tonight. Glitter all around with firefly toots, and glitter in the clear sky showcasing the milky way. Man it's good to live out in the country. And it's good to pour scotchy scotch down in my belly.
Arran Bodega Sherry Cask. 55.8% ABV. $95 CAD. From the Isle of Arran. Matured for 7 years in first-fill sherry hogshead.
We sniff around:
Trevor starts us off with cherry.
Simon goes for winey; white wine note. It's got a sweetness to it too.
Scott says it's porty. Smells more like a port cask than sherry.
Honey, caramel, wine, cherry, floral all get thrown around.
We cheers.
Scott: mmh. wow that's nice.
Simon says its very fizzy, you can feel the higher proof. Lots of butterscotch and a specific berry he can't pinpoint. Blackberry maybe? You get a full experience too, comes in warm and fizzy then coats your mouth with sweet and fruity flavors that stick around a while.
Kyle points out the salty notes. We agree.
Sean goes more for cherry. A dark chocolate note too.
Trevor gets some tootsie roll notes on the nose now.
Reviews: Sean's pick. Nothing sticks out much appart from the alcohol content, but he likes it and it's a good price. He starts us off with 80. Trevor says there's a lot of cool things going on. Good complexity. It's got a good feel to it, fizzy syruppy. It's potent, you just pour your ounce and you enjoy it. He goes 86. Kyle is on the same page. The wine note sticks out nicely for him. He says this would make a great night cap drink. He'd pick it up. Lands at 85. Scott puts this in the desert scotch category. He likes this sweet high proof scotch and looks forward to more coming our way. 85 for him as well. Simon rounds up the review with 86. He's a fan. Averages out to 84.4.
Overall: This one wasn't controversial. We've got the Aberlour A'bunadh and the Glenfarclas 105 coming up for reviews in the next couple months so it'll be fun to compare all the affordable high proof sherry bombs. Arran Bodega rates very well with us, it's a good price, does well on our value scale, and if you're interested in exploring high proof punchy sherried scotches, this is a must-try.
Cheers!
The S&P Crew.
