#139: Old Tub

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Our 7th review tonight with all 5 crew members in person for the first time in 2 years. We've gotten a chance to eat some dogs and burgers, freshen up with some soda water and soda crackers, and our buds are back in the ring.

Old Tub Bourbon. Bottled in Bond so 50% ABV and 4 years old. Jim Beam distillery in Kentucky. $44 CAD.

We sniff around:

Trevor says its very sweet.

Simon gets the unique peanut aroma, cinnamon peanuts. No one else can see the peanut.

Smells like a bourbon.

We cheers.

Kyle says it's got heat to it.

Simon is sticking to his cinnamon covered peanuts. Trevor is trying to get the peanut, maybe the kind of raw peanut butter no one ever has.

Trevor gets a weird pepperminty flavor too. Everyone likes that.

We get a sweet play-dough too.

Reivews: Simon likes it. This is going along with the Larceny Small Batch of good value solid bourbons. He gives it 1 point more because the peanut flavor is nice and unique to this. That lands him at 79. Kyle doesn't get peanut but he does enjoy it. It's got a good spice. 75 for him. Trevor likes it. He gets a weird pepperminty flavor there that's nice. 78 for him. Sean is still getting used to rating bourbons. This is fruitier than most bourbons he's had. He's got this at 72. Scott pins it at 77. Middle of the pack, he wouldn't turn it down, but it's just a bourbon on the fruity side. Averages out to 76.2.

Overall: This does well on value. It didn't blow any of us away but it's a fine bourbon. It rates lower than the other bourbons we've reviewed so far. We wouldn't turn this down, but we wouldn't recommend it either.

Cheer!

The S&P Crew.
