It's election time in Canada! The crew's stances spans the political spectrum, but there's a few things we can still agree on. Like Canada is AWESOME. But that's about it.
Glenlivet Founder's Reserve. $60 CAD. 40% ABV. Speyside region. Traditional oak casks, and first-fill bourbon.
We sniff around:
Scott says apples and soap. Buttertart note too kind of.
Simon goes for an apple cider vinegar. Slightly diluted one. Apple sauce, apple pie.
Sean goes for a sour apple.
Trevor pulls fermented apple, vanilla, banana, and roasted marshmello.
We cheers.
Sean says it's very watered down. Apples.
Simon disagrees a bit, he thinks the flavors are there and it comes through nicely. Not the nicest mouthfeel but still.
Kyle thinks it's pretty basic.
Scott gets a sour apple note.
Trevor thinks it's flat with a green jolly rancher note.
Reviews: Kyle's pick. Everything about is standard and decent. Little to no finish. 60 for him. Scott gives it a 63. It's good for what it is. It advertises itself as a mass market scotch and it does well in that sense. Simple flavors and easy drinking. Sean thinks the 12 had a slight edge on it and this is really watery. 54 for him. Simon doesn't think it's that bad, he thinks it's better than the 12 in fact. This comes through relatively nicely for the price and he might pick up a mickey when on the road. It's got nice apple pie baking spices flavors. Lands him at 70. Trevor's our highest bidder tonight at 73. The nose is good but the palate is wanting. Averages out to 64.
Overall: This rates a notch better than the Glenlivet 12, but we have yet to find a Glenlivet we recommend. We'll keep digging though! For science!
Cheers!
The S&P Crew.
