#149: Tullibardine 225

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

The second of 4 scotches in a Tullibardine sampler Scott and Simon purchased.

Tullibardine 225: 43% ABV. $70 CAD. Highland. Finished in Sauternes wine barrels.

We sniff around:

Simon gets a lot of caramel. Strong spicy nose.

Scott pulls pear, that's a good note.

We agree there's a white wine Pinot Grigio note there.

This needed to air out. 10 minutes later the nose is more friendly, apples, pears, Scott goes for wild flowers.

We cheers.

Simon likes it. It has family ressemblence with the Glenmorangie Nectar d'Or which is also a Sauternes. Simon also gets a bit of the dill pickle flavor that was prominent in the Tullibardine Sovereign. It's sweet white wine. Little vinegary salty note that reminds of the dill pickle a bit.

Scott thinks it's a bit hollow. It might make a nice cooled scotch on a summer day. It's light.

Reviews: Simon thinks it's just fine. Mostly white wine with butterscotch notes. 74 for him. Scott is a little less impressed. It's OK but feels hollow and dull. 69 in his book.

Overall: This is fine but not something we'll recommend or suggest that the crew split on a bottle.

Cheers!

The S&P Crew.
