Simon here from S&P. This is the first of 6 samples of Craft Cellars' ''Whisky Explorations Tasting Part 1''. These are mostly bottles I'll never be able to justify, but it's always fun to tickle your tastebuds a bit.
Number 1 is Blanoch Talia 25. 25 years old, 43% ABV, $650 CAD, Lowland, composed from scotches in many different casks (bourbon, sherry, refill, and finishes in virgin oak).
Sniffing her:
Malt candy. Apples. Sour sweet note, think green jolly rancher. Sweet hay. Little tootsie roll note.
Digging in:
Sour/spicy butterscotch. Malty. Dry fruitiness. Long malty finish. Mostly malty, with sour mash note. Little hay note. Still a little sweet but a lot less than the nose.
Overall/Review: This is nice. Malt forward, well balanced, well driven medium flavors, a little bit to dig into, good feel. I've got no complaints other than $$$$$. 84 in my books.
Cheers!
Simon from S&P.
