Simon again. Number 2 of the Whisky Exploration Tasting Part 1 hosted by Craft Cellars.
Balblair 25 years old: 46% ABV, $850 CAD, Highland, ex-Bourbon casks with Oloroso finish.
Sniffing her:
All apples. Apple concentrate mostly. Apple pie. Bruised apples. Apple cider. Strong full nose, but not very complex.
Cheers!
Still apple-centric, mostly green apple here, but also lots of other things going on. Honey. Hay. Nice mix and balance of bitter sweet malty notes. The finish is distinct. More bready and malty. There's an earthy note in there I like too, think turnip. Little orangy citrus.
Overall/Review: This is really tasty, well balanced, very smooth feel, there's no burn at all on this one. Just all medium/full, well delivered flavors. Somewhere between $100-$150 I would get a bottle for sure. I've yet to run into anything that I would value higher than $250-$300, despite doing all these fancy tasting. Maybe that will change one day. Anyway, really tasty stuff, if you have an infinite purse, by all means, add this to your cabinet. 89.
Cheers!
Simon from S&P.
