#159: Arran 23 Explorer's Series Vol. 4

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Fourth Scotch in the Craft Cellar's Exploration Tasting Part 1. We're exploring the regions with this tasting. So far we've had three quarter century scotches with Balblair 25, Bladnoch 25, and Mortlach 26, and this one stays around that ballpark at 23 years old.

Arran 23 years Explorer's Series Vol. 4 Drumadoon Point: 49% ABV, $290 CAD, aged in Sherry puncheon, single malt from the Isle of Arran.

Sniffing her:

Honeycrisp apples, bright, white wine. Hard cider.

Cheers.

Salty butterscotch. Honeycrisp apples still there. Good fizzy feel. Warm and syruppy. There's a little moldy barley note on the finish. Lots of autumn feels.

Overall/review: This is great, tasty, good feel, and well put together, but I will be sticking with my Aultmore 12 for this kind of scotch. This falls on the edge of what I would be willing to spend on a bottle, but I'm not finding the uniqueness or complexity or fullness to justify the extra big bucks. 86.

Cheers!

Simon from S&P.
