#171: Wiser's 15 Year

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Simon here checking in. Got a chance to order a glass of this a few days ago at 1000 Islands Brewing Co and let me tell you, if you ever find yourself in Brockville ON, stop here. The food is unbelievably good, and the master brewer was there serving me a beer flight and talking about his designs for each beer, which were with one exception exceedingly well crafted (the one exception is the amber which is generic and meant to be kegged over to all the bars in Ontario, so I guess it is well crafted in that sense). But when you do stop here, should you order some Wiser's 15 Year?

Wiser's 15 Year: 40% ABV, $50 CAD, Canadian Whisky from Ontario, rye and corn mash, aged in virgin oak/ex-bourbon/and refill.

Sniffing her:

Vanilla caramel. Oak. Nailpolish but just a tiny bit.

Cheers!

Crazy smooth with a little vanilla oak on the tail end. Little nailpolishy. Vanilla. Oak. Nailpolish. Repeat.

Review/Overall: This is the kind of whisky you should get to impress your Coors Light drinking uncles, or to lure someone in who is averse to trying whisky, because it is so insanely smooth. By far the easiest drinking whisky we've reviewed. I remember Collingwood whisky being traditionally my go-to for this type of thing, I'll have to revisit that one some day. That said, for me, this is wholy unimpressive and a waste of $8 (the bar fee). It's a super smooth version of Wiser's Deluxe. I may actually end up buying a bottle though to bring to my Coors Light drinking uncles' Christmas party. They would go nuts over this. Stamping a 67 here.

Cheers!
