#195: Dalmore 15

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

We started Round 5 with Dalmore Cigar Malt, and we're ending it with Dalmore 15. Dalmore has been consistent ever since we tried their 12 year old back in November 2020. We've already purchased the Port Wood to sample in a couple months, and then the last on the list will be the big boy, King Alexander III. So let's see how the 15 measures up.

Dalmore 15: 40% abv, $165 CAD, Highland Single Malt aged in a mixture of ex-bourbon, Amoroso, Matusalem, and Apostoles sherry casks.

Sniffing around:

Simon starts us off with a sherry influence, burgundy flavors. Maple syrup. It's got a Dalmore-y-ness to it.

Scott goes with orange rind. Oak. Little chocolate note.

Sean gets lots of sherry notes. Cherries.

Trevor finds a fermented fruit note. Almost butterscotch note. Gets better as you dig into it.

Simon adds dried berries.

We cheers.

Thick syruppy oily feel to it Scott says.

Trevor pulls some sherry notes on the front and then cough syrup on the back.

Bitter leather Scott adds. Dark chocolate almond bar on the finish.

Sean gets some red wine notes, some berries. A little acidic on the finish with a red wine feel as well.

Kyle goes for a red velvet cake flavor. Little bitter note on the finish.

Reviews: Scott starts us off with 89. He likes everything about this. Great mouthfeel, smooth aromatic nose, a bit unique, comparable to some Macallans. Would love to have a bottle on his shelf. These are the flavors he gets in older scotches. Does everything right, not too busy. Simon follows up with 84. He might grab it if it was on sale closer to $100. Maple syrup, chocolate-y notes. He thinks this is just as good as the Dalmore 18. They're a little different but he would rate them the same. Kyle lands on 85. Very good scotch but he was still expecting a bit more. He's not running to get a bottle but on sale he may be interested. Trevor thinks it's good but nothing that pushes it off the cliff. He goes 81. Would make a nice dessert scotch with the texture and the dark chocolate notes. Sean says this drinks almost like potent red wine. Pretty smooth and tasty. 80 for him. We average out to 83.8.

Overall: This does what all Dalmores have with the crew: pretty good overall rating with fair/mediocre value. If you can find this around $100-110 CAD, this is an easy purchase, but it's hard to see the value once it creeps into the $160+ like here in Ontario. Otherwise this is tasty stuff and if you get a chance to try it or find a good deal we recommend you go for it.

Cheers!

The S&P Crew.
