#236-251: Two Brewers MEGA Review

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Good day everyone! I (Simon) have reviewed 16 Two Brewers releases and figured I’d bundle them all together and give you my overall impression of the distillery. Was tough to figure out what order to go with but I decided for order of release. TL;DR get some TB in your life. This whisky is unique, it’s delicious with the characteristic green apple candy note, and it’s Canadian. The Releases I recommend are 22, 25, 27, and 28.

Release 10 Classic Cask Strength 58%

Nose: big bold malty green apple candy.

Palate: malty honey. Very highland-esque. Nice feel at CS. Some apple but not as prominent as nose. Really nice. 84

Release 17 Innovative 46%

Nose: wayyyy oakier than other releases, almost bourbon mixed with speyside. Like a mellow bourbon with apple notes. Vanilla. Ok after it sits for a while the candy apple notes pop more.

Palate: herbal apples. Body is weaker than typical release. Vanilla. Again that bourbonniness.

Idk def not my fave release but it's good. 75

Release 18 Classic Cask Strength 58%

Nose: green apple candy. Malty.

Palate: hmm very nice punchy. Malty. Green apple candy. Honey. Goes down really nice. Theres a little astringent note thats nice. 83.

Release 19 Peated 46%

Nose: smoky green jolly rancher, pears.

Palate: salty citrus. Very salty actually. Its got a good body. A little sweetness sticks around. The peat comes through more on the palate than nose. Kinda honey/orchardy. Yea very nice. The nose is distinctly TB still with some smoke. The TB is kinda lost on the palate tho. Almost entry islayish, I like the other peated releases better. Still well done. After a while you get the iconic green apple candy actually with the earthy boggy peat. Very nice. Close to release 30 but not quite as funky. 83/84.

Release 21 Classic 46%

Nose: light nose. Malty. Little herb. Dehydrated apple. More herbal and grainy than Release 26 for sure

Palate: apple juice. Grainy. Malty. Spiky finish. Yea def not nearly as good as Release 26. 73/74.

Release 22 Innovative 51%

Nose: apple pie. Honey. Granny smith. Green apples. Green jolly rancher.

Palate: huge green jolly rancher. Malty. Good kick to it. Apples. Big golden apple/calvados finish.

This is the first TB I reviewed and I couldn’t believe how prominent and defined the green jolly rancher note was haha. Love it 88.

Release 23 Special Finish 46%

Nose: malty green apple candy. Little mossy.

Palate: nice feel. Apple honey and rye-ish notes with that spice and herbal. Little malty.

Supposedly peated but i dont think you’d ever know blind. This is a nice TB. 80/81.

Release 25 Peated 43%

Nose: burnt rosemary. Chicken in the oven with italian breading on it. Thanksgiving turkey. And then cover all that with a honey glaze and an odd but nice kinda freshness to it. Green jolly rancher is there too, backgrounded. Blown out match.

Palate: smoked rosemary. Sage scented candle thats lit. Green jolly ranchers. Vanilla honey. Surprisingly nice body for 43%. Very nice 87

Release 25 Peated Cask Strength 58%

Nose: started just green apple candy but now its opened up crazy. Herbal. Smoky herbs

Palate: smoked herbs and then green apple candy sweetness backgrounded. So good. At least 91. This is easily my favorite but unfortunately I have bottle 6 of 12 so good luck finding one.

Release 26 Classic 46%

Nose: malty green apple candy. Oak.

Palate: more malty whereas nose was more apple candy. Still apple candy, especially on the finish. Super easy drinking. Nice feel. TB is so nice at 46%. 83.

Release 27 Innovative 46%

Nose: apple juice. Roasted nuts. Malty. Green jolly rancher. Honey

Palate: hmm. Roasty. Apple jolly rancher/apple juice. Roasted stout. This tastes like regular TB aged in stout casks. Thick, great mouthfeel. Super well done. 87.

Release 28 Special Finish 46%

Nose: green jolly rancher. Same pear/ irsish nose. Golden raisin. Big nose, little wine-y.

Palate: ok thats different though. Theres a oaky herbal note there thats taking over. The pear/green jolly rancher is still there but theres a pine-y dry green herbs note thats different. Yea this is nice. Tastes more scotchy than the typical release. Sweet honey/apple/assorted berries. Nice body. 82.

Release 29 Cask Strength 56%

Nose: green apple candy. Malty. Bright. Cereal

Palate: oooh nice. Theres a roasty nutty cereal note thats pretty unique. Honey. Sunscreen. Apples. Really nice feel.

This is a nice release. 85/86. Might go a couple points higher.

Release 30 Peated 46%

Nose: smoky. Honey. Light.

Palate: smoky citrus. Coastal. Sea spray. Almost laphroaigy if you would believe it, but a touch toned down. Wow really surprised. Was not expecting these funky peat notes. I did not get them on any of the other peated releases. I mean I really like it but this is pretty stripped of all its TBness. I like the peated releases better where the TB is still there. 80.

Release 31 Classic 46%

Nose: green jolly rancher. Pearish almost irish. Probably would guess irish blind. Malty

Palate: hmm tasty. Solid feel. Same green jolly rancher pear note. Definitely comparable to writers tears stuff. Double oak. Little spice. Sweet oak.

Really nice but not my favorite release. Just overall well done and classic TB. 81.

Release 33 Peated Cask Strength 58%

Nose: smoked malt. Green apple candy

Palate: sweet on the front with honey and green apples, then on the back its smoker smoky. Good body. Little oaky. Little herbal. 85/86

Over-overall: get some Two Brewers in your life. The only things that compare flavor and quality wise are some of the Shelter Point Single Malt, and Glen Breton Single Malt but TB just does it bigger, cleaner, and more consistently in my opinion. I’ll make it a point to hunt down at least a sample of every release. Well done Yukon.

Cheers!

Simon for S&P.
