Second sample of the Compass Box sampler Simon & Scott split.
Sniffing her.
Simon: There's a nice maltiness there. Butterscotchy fruity.
Scott: I get a hint of smoke and some spices.
Simon: It got a little shy in the glass, smells better in the sample bottle. Guessing there's some sherried drams in there, mostly highlands.
Scott: There's some syruppy notes.
We cheers.
Simon: That's a spice tree. Great name. Baking spices. Cooking spices. Not the herbal stuff, more the brown and red spices.
Scott: You feel the spices shooting off like branches across the tongue.
Simon: Some butterscotch/caramel.
Scott: It's not as spicy heatwise as I was expecting. It's got a good spicy/sweet balance.
Simon: It's some nice complexity to it.
Scott: Yea nutmeg. Those kinds of spices you put in eggnog. Feels cold when you breathe in. It's neat. Do you think there's some Highland Park in here.
Simon: That's a good guess. I wasn't thinking that but it's a good guess. Bunnahabain? Dalmore? Craigellachie? This is nice, anything below $80 I might get a bottle one day.
Scott: Ginger?
Simon: Yea, really diluted ginger.
Scott: I'm looking at the website. Lots of French Oak casks. Clynelish. Dailuaine. Then a bunch of ''Highland Malt Blends''.
Reviews.
Scott: This is an 85 for me. I love what it's got going on. I like highland scotches in general but this is really neat. I can't pin down everything that's going on, but it's got neat flavors. Nice blend. Deceptively shy nose. Would be tempted to buy a bottle if I came across it.
Simon: I think this is well done too and I'd similarly be interested in getting a bottle. I'm putting a 79 on this.
Cheers!
