#177: Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Simon and Scott are installing some baseboards on this windy November day. Scott's about to put this property up for lease shortly. We're working on the future, but we don't miss our opportunity to take a break and enjoy the present, digging into some Kentucky honey, and some Honduran tobacco.

Evan Williams Bottled-in-Bond: 50% ABV, $40 CAD, 4-years old, Kentucky Bourbon.

We sniff around:

Lots of cherries Simon says, cherry oak. Big corny notes. Cinnamon.

Scott pulls some malty, leathery notes.

Simon likes that leather note, it has an old richness to it.

Scott gets a soft orange rind.

Gentle nose on this.

We cheers.

Cherry, cinnamon, oak. Has a nice feel to it at 50% Simon says.

It's got a good kick.

Scott gets that orange note on the finish. Like you walk by somone peeling an orange.

After sitting with it for a while Simon gets a leathery/corny/dusty kind of note to it he likes.

Scott feels like he's got a lot of cinnamon hearts in his mouth.

Reviews: Simon's putting an 80 on it. This is a well balanced bourbon, a bit more complexity than average, feels nice, it has that one hold corny dusty rich note he really likes. He'll pick it up again for sure. Scott's thinking 79 here.

Overall: Anything $40 and under for this it's an easy pick up. Definitely not a starter bourbon though. We'd recommend it as a solid budget bourbon.

Cheers!

The S&P Crew.
