Good morning Ponderers! Simon and Scott reviewed this one in between coats. Yep, we're painting today, so if you see pasty or acetone notes in our review, it might be from drying paint!

GlenAllachie 12 PX Finish, $132 CAD here in Ontario, 48% ABV.

We're sniffing:

Simon: Maple syrup, berries.

Scott: Maltiness.

Simon: The maple syrup is more potent in the sample bottle.

Scott: Oh yea wow.

It opens up after a few minutes.

Simon: You know those frozen berry mix that have cherries, blackberries, bluberries, raspberries, I get that frozen mix. A little honey.

Scott: Reminds me a bit of a Dalmore on the nose.

Simon: Eeeh the Dalmore is a little richer, little more butterscotchy. This is lighter and sweeter. I can see that though.

Scott: It's like a fruit punch.

We cheers.

Simon: Very sweet eh.

Scott: Sour too.

Simon: Yea on the finish, something sour and dry. Butterscotchy.

Scott: Yea there's a tanginess.

Simon: Good amount of spice, but it's balanced out by the sweetness.

Scott: There's something candy about it, Big Feet? Mmm that's unique.

Simon: I get the maple syrup still. Like fruit flavored maple syrup.

Scott: It's like strawberry syrup. You know the Nesquick? It's like a strawberry shortcake, or strawberry ice cream flavor.

Simon: Yea strawberries is good. Not real ones though. Artificial.

Scott: The spice has died down.

Simon: I still get a good amount but it's balanced by the fullness.

Scott: There's a good harmony between the bitter/sour and the gummy candies/strawberry syrup.

Reviews: Scott goes with an 86. It's fun, it's tasty, nice harmony and complexity to it. For Simon it's one of those scotches that haven't been consistent. He's had 100 mLs to play with and some of the glasses have been mid-70s, some have been mid-80s. This one is mid-80s but overall he's going to stamp an 81 on it.

Overall: This is a great desert scotch. Full flavored syruppy. Fruity. It's a fuller flavored version of Tomatin 14 Port Cask we reviewed a while back. At $132 CAD it takes a hit on value though. Anything under $100 we'd be all over it but at $130 you may never see it on our shelves. Definitely going to look for other GlenAllachie releases though. We hear the 10 year old cask strength batches are great.

Cheers!

The S&P Crew.
