Glenlivet 12

September 20th, getting cold out here in Southern Ontario. Pulling the coats out. Love it or hate it but there's something neat about having 4 evenly spaced out seasons. Mums are out, dahlias are blooming, the brisk breeze gives people a ruddy look with red cheeks and healthy miens. In my mind, fall is the ideal season for drinking whisky.

And that's what we're doing today, pouring some Glenlivet 12. A staple of the industry.

The scotch looks watery.

We sniff around, it's a mild nose, a little bland but fruity sweetness comes out. We agree it revolves around apples.

Kyle gets banana but he's alone there. Trevor gets a light peat and he is also alone there.

Scott pulls some honey, some cinnamon, and a little citrus.

We cheers.

The palate is very similar to the nose. You get a mild-medium heat that disappears after a few sips. Bland apples is the core flavor, with some vanilla hanging around.

Kyle gets a nuttiness, which Simon interprets as the dryness on the finish that he gets.

The finish isn't great, leaves an acidic, dry, chewy texture.

That's really all there is to it, so let's get down to ratings.

Simon starts us off with a 55. It looks diluted, smells diluted, tastes diluted. It's certainly drinkable and inoffensive, but it's bland. He can think of numerous other options at the same price point which are much more interesting. Trevor agrees goes 54. Same with Kyle 54. Sean 56, the finish is what keeps it from a 60 for him. Scott goes 60. He enjoys a little more than everyone else. We average out to 55.8 on this one.

Cheers!
