An fresh evening with friends. You remember what that feels like, a light breeze that warms and cools simultaneously, no humidity... and then enlightening conversations, and substance appreciation (as opposed to abuse).

It's only Sean, Scott, and Simon tonight, killing one of Sean's older bottles. We've all had this a couple years prior as part of a homemade scotch tasting, and this bottle won at the time. It's easy to understand why, it has nice balance of spice and fruity sweet flavors, a pleasant fruity nose, and both of them are mild-medium, nothing strong, but still distinct enough to pick up.

On the nose honey comes out, with some ripe fruits undertones. Sean calls it pear. This is a simple, mild-medium, pleasant nose.

We cheers.

On the tongue the flavors don't change a whole lot, but there is a good medium spice that sticks around. A few sips in Simon notices a pinch of salt. Scott backs that, but needs to look for it.

The honey is there, the ripe fruits are there from the sherry influence. Again, the flavors are not bold, mild-medium. Easy to drink. This will go up on our desert scotch recommendations.

A reminder for those reading through, these reviews are by amateurs for amateurs, a more down to earth and relatable experience than the high flung expert tastings we commonly find online and on the back of bottles. Something you can rely on to make decisions about which scotch you want in your cabinet. We've also got many pallets here, so you can trust that where we overlap is what you will likely get out of the scotch as well.

Ratings time:

We've got Simon and Sean at a 72, and Scott at a 76 on this one, for a 73.3 average. Price is $100 here in Ontario, so not cheap but affordable. This is the best desert scotch we've had so far, and it's by no means a bad buy, but I think we'll shop around a little more before we recommend and commit to it.

Cheers!
