It might have rained today. The weather people looked up, saw some clouds, so they sprinkled some 30% chances of rain throughout the evening. It didn't but I wasn't going to take chances. I'm not a man who takes chances. I took my scotch to the roofed front porch. Some of these scotches are one night stands, some of them you keep coming back to when it hits you, some of them are lifelong partnerships and commitments. Today I'm with Jura. Jura Seven Wood.

We open it up. This is a great smelling scotch.

Scott says you've got covid if you can't smell the oak. We agree.

Simon points to a deep thick smell of dried prunes or dried figs. Kyle agrees. Trevor calls it more raisins. Smells smooth. Everyone agrees it smells amazing.

We cheers. Scott is pleasantly surprised. ''It disappeared! It evaporated in my throat!''

Simon got the same feeling, Jura was there, and then she wasn't, she just left a trace of spice on the tip of the tongue, fleeting.

Trevor gets some floral flavors, we can't follow him.

Scott points to the great mouthfeel. It stays together on the tongue. Oily.

After a few sips the brine comes out for everyone.

Simon is disappointed not to get any of the strong flavors he had on the nose. No dried fruits, the oak is there but just mild and on the finish.

Kyle likes it a lot better with a few drops of water. It brings out the sweetness.

Trevor gets pepper. Again, his palate is off tonight compared to everyone else.

No peat, no smoke.

A reminder for those reading through, these reviews are by amateurs for amateurs, a more down to earth and relatable experience than the high flung expert tastings we commonly find online and on the back of bottles. Something you can rely on to make decisions about which scotch you want in your cabinet. We've also got 5 pallets here, so you can trust that where we overlap is what you will likely get out of the scotch as well.

Ratings:

Price point on this is C$100, which is mid-range for us in Canada. Trevor would like to buy this bottle again at some point and he really likes the smoothness, so he goes for an 80. Simon and Sean loved the smell, but failed to find anything exciting on their pallets, and the oak is too subtle. They rated 67 and 62 respectively. Kyle with his water added goes 70. Scott goes 78, he likes the finish, the mouthfeel, the smoothness, the awesome nose. Didn't even feel it going down the throat. We average out to a 71.4 on this tonight.

Overall this scotch is a little overvalued, and there isn't anything unique going on that would encourage us to recommend it despite this.

Cheers!
