We're getting together today to move Scott to his forever home. An antique with no end of treasures and projects. After hard work we sit back to enjoy the finer things. We're getting the best of laborious and regal life out here. The vigor and the luxury.
Our luxury today is Laphroaig PX Cask. This is a travel exclusive so don't look for it at your B&M.
This single malt packs a punch.
Briny on the nose. Sean says it reminds him of a maritime town. Scott says it takes you somewhere else. It gives you a feeling.
The peat is there too, seaweed, and after a couple minutes the sherry aromas really come through, the ripe dates or figs.
We cheers.
Oh man. So many layers. You get the briny, peaty, medicinal Laphroaig 10, but then the sherry comes through. Scott didn't get the sherry on the nose, but got it right away on the palate.
The spice is there but mild-medium, doesn't hide anything.
Nice mouthfeel.
Kyle gets something else, not sure what.
Sean points to a mild herbal flavor, maybe that's what Kyle was hinting at.
The finish is distinctly sour.
Everything is bold and plays well together.
It's a shame you can only get this at duty free.
Let's get to ratings.
Kyle starts us off. He got this bottle for US$100 for 1L. He says it smells nice, but the taste is where it's at. There's so much going on. He goes 84. He would definitely have this on his shelf again. Sean seconds him with an 82. Simon loves it. It's a notch up from the Laphroaig 10 with the sherry that sticks out. He goes 88, his highest rating so far. Scott thinks it's good but it's not his bouquet of flavors. 68 for him. We average out at 80.5 tonight, our highest rating so far.
Our average rating is 72.57. If you like Laphroaigs at all with the smoky medicinal peat, we highly recommend this one. Very good value, and great complexity.
Cheers!
