Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Photo cred Ralf Leman. I have a sample of Batch 6 also not pictured. We reviewed that one as a crew a few months back. See my thoughts on these below.

Tamdhu batch strength 001 58.8%

👃🏻 pretty classic tamdhu, tannic oak, old furniture, jammy.

👅 hmm really nice. Just a touch of spice. And then all classic Tamdhu notes but well balanced and delivered. Toffee, old oak, little jam. Nothing super fancy just really well done. 88.

Tamdhu batch strength 002 58.5%

👃🏻 very similar to 001 but bolder on the nose. Maybe its older. More toffee maybe

👅 mmm yea very nice stuff. Super crushable. Otherwise same as batch one, mostly toffee less old oak. This is a really solid batch. 89/90.

Tamdhu batch strength 003 58.3%

👃🏻 this one has way more raw barrel notes in it. Toasty. Char. Baking spices and then a honey molassy sweetness.

👅 thats nice. A toasty spicy oaky sweetness. Yea its really nice. Well done. Its a touch too punchy but not too bad. Very nice. 86.

Tamdhu batch strength 004 57.8%

👃🏻 fruit syrup/maple syrup, on the sweeter side.

👅 palate is spicy sweet bread. Fruit syrup. This is good but definitely on the plainer side and not as balanced as some of other releases. 79.

Tamdhu batch strength 005 59.8%

👃🏻 hmm cranberries and baking spices? Has a bitter fruity note hence why im going cranberry. Cranberry pie. Oaky

👅 hmm really nice feel. Bitter oaky note on the finish. char. Its corn syrup vanilla sweet. Heavier on the bourbon cask perhaps? This is solid. 86.

Tamdhu batch strength 006 56.8%

👃🏻 wayyy heavier on the butterscotch. Like butterscotch ice cream.

👅 a lot lighter than the others. Butteracotch ice cream vanilla. Really nice feel actually this is an easy sipper. Also pretty plain but quite enjoyable as a sipper. 84. Its got a golden oaky syrup note thats nice.

👃🏻 oh so nice. Welted bouquet balsamic vinegar caramel.

👅 punchy, balsamic, molasses, savory, floral, caramel toffee. This is delicious. Its pretty punchy tho. Definitely not a sipper but loads of delicious flavors. 91

Overall:

The batch strengths are all pretty solid, I think they’re on batch 8 now. That said, for the same price just get the indies. I’ve had a bunch and they’re all either better or at least as good. Tamdhu is definitely an underrated distillery imo. Even their core 46% stuff is delicious. Cheers!
