5th sample in the Craft Cellars Whisky Explorations Tasting Part 1.

Springbank 10 year old Local Barley 2020: 55.6% ABV, $230 CAD, Oloroso Sherry casks, Campbeltown.

Sniffing her:

Loads of ripe berries, various wines, cider, peaches, butterscotch. Leather, pipe tobacco. Old driftwood. There's slight peaty richness in there too. Awesome nose on this one. Like sitting in a worn leather chair on an old lone cottage porch overlooking a river filled forest beside a fruit garden. On a humid day.

Cheers!

Wow, blown with all berry filled toffee, christmas cake flavors at first, and then the finish goes more into that sherry humus-y leathery notes. This is so good. Lots of bready notes, like banana bread with dried berries in it. Port, sherry, rich peat all get a seat on the tongue. Thick. Maple syrup. Salty/spicy mix. Some old oak on the finish, this must've aged in old or seasoned barrels.

Overall/Review: Wish I had more than 15 mLs to play with here. Going to land on 95-97. It doesn't get much better than this. For $230 CAD, this is an easy yes for me. The only justifyable bottle in this tasting is the best one. Sadly it sells out online very quickly so I'm going to have to get lucky if I ever want to land a bottle of this.

Cheers!

Simon from S&P.
