#214: Ardmore Legacy

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Back to back to back new distilleries for us. The five of us started a new book this week too as part of our ponders. Simon's pick this time: Michael Sandel's The Tyranny of Merit - Can We Find the Common Good? Definitely a title that sounds like it'll provoke some healthy disagreements among the group. Looking forward to it.

Ardmore Legacy, 40% abv, $57 CAD, Highland Single Malt.

We sniff:

Big malty honey Simon says. Little floral.

Scott gets some peat influence there. Sweet lemon.

Trevor gets the peat, the maltiness, it's nice. Sourdough note. Vanilla sea salt.

Full nose for 40%.

We cheers.

Lemon honey right away.

Scott pulls a little salty. It's a little diluted.

Simon gets some apple. Malty. He thinks it's pretty flavorful.

Some of us get a hint of peat.

Reviews: Kyle's pick. After the initial sip it gets weaker. It's smooth but not a ton there. One and done. He wouldn't buy it. 68 for him. Scott had the same number in mind. 68. Nose is nicer than the palate, but it's thin and boring. Simon is a notch higher. This is flavorful, speyside-y, lemon salt, honey, lightness that he likes. He could definitely see a bottle on his shelf at the price. 77. Trevor is at 78. He thinks it's decently well put together. It's not spectacular but it's got nice things going on. Sean's got a 62 on it. Not really impressed. It's drinkable. Averages out to 70.6.

Overall: This one is pretty controversial with the crew. We've got three guys that are not looking forward to the remainder of their 5oz sample, and two that will likely get a bottle, although they're not rushing for it. Tough to make a recommendation here. It's not pricey so keep an eye out at a well-stocked bar so you can try it and make up your own mind.

Cheers!

The S&P Crew.
