2023 here we come! Our resolution is to post more reviews this year. Hope you enjoy!
Oban Distiller's Edition: Highland Single Malt, 43% abv, $150 CAD, finished in Montilla Fino sherry casks.
We're sniffing around:
Scott starts us off with Highland.
Simon thinks there's more to it. Christmas cake, dense moist bread, stewed fruits. Nutty.
Sean pulls some floral notes. There's some debate about that. Simon thinks it's too dense to be called floral.
Kyle goes for black liquorish. Cereal notes.
White wine note from Scott.
We cheers.
Copy paste for Simon. Bready, black liquorish, little apple, little fruity.
Goes down very easy for Sean.
Scott gets the fruit cup snack juice.
Kyle really gets the nutty notes on the palate, calls it toned down Nutella.
Simon gets more walnut than hazelnut but yes.
Reviews: Sean's pick, he starts us off with 85, this is solid. Easy drinking, nice flavors, nothing to complain about. Kyle goes 88, it's doing everything right, gets better every sip, nice finish. Scott lands on 86, he was a bit lower, but as he's drinking more flavors come through, this citrusy tanginess is adding a nice layer. Simon started in the high 70s but it keeps creeping up. He's going 83. Overall he likes this type of scotch at higher proof and would not be looking for a bottle. Trevor is less impressed and he wraps it up with a 70. Averages out to 82.4.
Overall: Really enjoyable and tasty scotch but the value is debatable. See if you can find a sample before buying a bottle. That said you could certainly do worse, we really enjoyed this, well balanced and easy drinking with a decent body.
Cheers!
