Elixir Macbeth Series review (minus King)

Writer's picture: S&PS&P

Morning folks! I got this tasting from Kensington Wine Market and figured I’d share my quick notes and overall thoughts. Cheers!

Ardmore macbeth collection 12y seyton 52.5%

👃🏻 nice, earthy, lemony, salty

👅 feels really good. Savory. Salty, medicinal (herbal), earthy, herbal tea, cold 911 tea from davids tea, little citrus, burnt oak. This is awesome actually. 92. Thats so nice.

Blair athol macbeth bloody sergeant 10y 51.8%

👃🏻 coffee, amaretto, coffee cocktail. Awesome nose.

👅 pretty punchy. Coffee, oaky, lots of fruity notes, apples, berries. Yeasty finish. I very much enjoy this, pretty classic blair athol type. Some jammy notes now at the end. Its a touch too punchy for this type of scotch but I dont mind. 87.

Glen garioch macbeth angus 31y 54.6%

👃🏻 apples, stewed apples, oak. Light molasses. Pancakes

👅 feels good. Apples, malty toasty. Apple cider. This is tasty but underwhelming for what it is. 85.

Cambus macbeth first ghost 31y 46.2%

👃🏻 yep single grain. Caramel vanilla extract. Oak

👅 feels good, light and thick. Syruppy. Big vanilla oak. Caramel/butterscotch. Nice spice. I mean this is a perfectly fine single grain. Nice typical range of flavors, feels good, very enjoyable. 86.

Linkwood macbeth lady macduff 31y 48.2%

👃🏻 smells similar to the blair but with a candy bucket sweet note. Balsamic, oak, old barrel. Really gorgeous nose.

👅 decent body. Fruity sweetness, like oaky raspberries. Little citrus. This would make a great salad dressing like raspberry vinaigrette. Well its definitely better than the Blair. Quite a few layers, feels good, tastes great. Very refined. 92.

Benriach macbeth menteith 31y 53.1%

👃🏻 smoked toffee. Caramel candle. Oak waffles

👅 oak toffee. Caramel. Waffles. Maple syrup. Thick. Wisp of smoke. Solid Benriach. Solid scotch. Feels good, tastes good. 91.

Ardbeg macbeth first witch 19y 51.7%

👃🏻 bruised citrus. Sea salt. Burnt wood. Campfire. Beautiful nose

👅 thick. Syruppy. Salty. Charcoal. This is probably the sweetest ardbeg ive ever had. Its sweet forward and salt and charcoal in the background. Super thick. Herbal liqueur. This is honestly a gorgeous dram wow. 94/95. Really impressed.

Ledaig macbeth first murderer 18y 50.5%

👃🏻 salty, charred wood. Little earthy note. Pretty classic ledaig nose. Some citrus. After a while you have this medicinal herbal note comes out thats really nice

👅 feels good. On the lighter side. Savory, herbal, hint of sugary sweetness thats nice, salty, charred oak. This is a lovely ledaig. 91. Minty fresh finish.

Overall: I enjoyed this set especially the Ardbeg. Aside from the Blair and Ardmore, these are super pricey. Benriach, Glen Garioch, and Linkwood are all north of $1k, Ardbeg in the $800s, Cambus $470, Ledaig $350. Taking pricing into consideration the only one I would personally purchase is the Ardmore. If someone is looking at spending that kind of dough the Ardbeg is absolutely delicious. The others I would personally not recommend.

Cheers!

Simon
