After the 12 back in April and the 105 just a couple months ago, we're reviewing Glenfarclas 15 today! The 105 was a bit of let down overall, so let's see if Glenfarclas can make a comeback here with the crew.
Glenfarclas 15: 46% ABV, $110 CAD, Speyside single malt, aged in Oloroso sherry casks.
Sniffing around:
Kyle and Scott both say chocolate at the same time.
Simon agrees, smells like the chocolate with little raspberry chunks in it.
Not Sean's favorite chocolate.
Trevor adds vanilla. Cherry.
Simon goes for a lot of sherried aromas. Fruit juices.
Welcoming nose. Not exactly complex, but uncommon for sure.
We cheers.
Flavorful Scott says.
Kyle pulls a black cherry note.
Simon says there's something fudgy. Fudgy black cherries.
Scott calls it pure dark chocolate.
Not bitter though Sean says.
Simon says it's more roasty, like a mild italian espresso.
Scott likes that, calls it mocha.
We get some sherry notes. Scott calls it a tart berry.
Simon's picturing a black forest cake.
This is crazy smooth without feeling weak. It's got a body. Not quite syruppy but a little viscous.
Reviews: Scott's pick. He goes 85. Loves the flavors. He likes the black forest cake note. It's smooth. He's a fan. Simon also loves this. Very rich, super easy drinking. He's going 85 for now but he thinks this will grow on him. Kyle is at 80. This is dangerous. It's sweet but not too sweet. Not quite a dessert. Does what it's doing nicely. He would come back to this. This is probably his favorite Speyside up to date. Sean doesn't like raspberry chocolate or black forest cake, but somehow it works with this scotch. 82 for him. The more Trevor has of this the more he enjoys it. He's going 81 for now. You can definitely get yourself in trouble with this. So flavorful and smooth. Averages out to 82.6.
Overall: Most of us will stock this. It's a little pricey so we'll probably wait until we see it for sub-$100. This isn't the type of scotch that will last long too once it hits our shelves. We recommend you give it a shot. Definitely a win for Glenfarclas.
Cheers!
The S&P Crew.
