Good afternoon everyone!
Simon here. I got to sample a handful of Amrut single casks in a variety of fortified wine this last few days and I figured I’d share the results. For science.
Amrut Truth Malter’s pick in PX, 60%
👃🏻 yea musty earthy. Figs. Molasses.
👅 oh wow. Delish. My god this has opened up over the last year. Huge fig and balsamic vinegar. Really nice heat. Wonderful stuff. 95.
Side-note, this is my third time reviewing this one over 1.5 years, and it has really opened up. The first two scores were both 90 and it was a bit of a hot mess. Not so now.
Amrut Norfolk Whisky Group pick Oloroso 60%
👃🏻 tawny, balsamic, fruit punch.
👅 spicy, honey, syruppy, balsamic, oak, fruit syrup. Yea this is delish. 92.
Amrut ex-port pipe 60% bottled for prestige ledroit
👃🏻 earthy and syruppy. Toasty. Little gummy bear note, grape candy. Wonderful nose
👅 spicy earthy syruppy. Thick. Really solid delicious stuff. Toasty. Some toasted herbal note thats unique to Amrut. 91.
Amrut 9y KWM pick Port Pipe 4660 60%
👃🏻 bright, super fruity and fruit candy. Fresh grapes. Toasty. Oaky. Red candy. Lovely nose. Fruit syrup, maple syrup
👅 hmm hot but in a nice way, loads of dates, oak, toast. Beautiful single cask from KWM as always. Some of these 60% Amruts are hot messes but this one is just the right punchiness. 92. Amruts have this specific toasty oak note that really comes out here.
Overall: these were awesome. I’ve had some less impressive Amrut single casks but for the most part everything Amrut, even the base single malt is delicious.
Cheers!
