Hey everyone. This one goes well with my previous review of the GlenAllachie peaters. Here are my thoughts on Arran distillery’s heavily peated inaugural release. Photo credit to Tony D.
Lagg 2022 batch 1 ex-bourbon cask 50%
👃🏻 heavy earthy peat and salt. Lemon
👅 tastes a bit thin. Lemon earthy peat. Caol ila esque. Theres a little funky oak note there actually thats unique. Its like a nuttiness. Overall tho i think this was released a bit too early. Its good but i feel it needs more body. 84.
Lagg 2022 batch 3 ex red wine charred cask 50%
👃🏻 very fruity, like fruit syrup and liquid smoke.
👅 salty, bright fruit, liquid smoke. This is pretty good but again weak body on this. 83.
Lagg 2022 batch 2 ex-oloroso sherry cask 50%
👃🏻 liquid smoke bbq sauce. Burnt wood. Smoking dates
👅 thin again. Coals. Liquid smoke bbq. Dates. This is my favourite one easily but also suffers from a weak body. This is delicious though. 87/88
Overall:
Sadly, although we’ve got a solid set of flavors, these all seem to suffer from lack of body. They feel thinner than what I’m used to for the flavor profile. Will keep trying them as they release older stuff.
Cheers! Simon
